Wood samples

A local company that sells hardwood flooring dropped off a bunch of small samples in the neighborhood some time ago, I got my neighbors to give them to me, well My next door neighbor found another one and dropped it in my mailbox today, so I decided to do something with it and give it back...

It`s a small block of oak or something.

I`ve done this pattern already but thought I`d do it again for a gift.
Had a problem burning the top, turns out I thought I`d sanded off all the finish but I didn`t even dent it, so thought I`d throw it thru the planer a few times, wrong.
So luckily I had another piece the same. this one I ran thru the band saw instead and sanded, much better.
This is it done just before clearing. Took me about 2 hours, and many silly restarts.
Turned out not bad, and I remembered to wear my mask cuzz this wood makes me ill.

Also done the kitchen witch, I`ll get a pic when it`s dry and post.

New project!

Wow, thought I`d lost the ability to sit down and complete anything... lol. It`s been MONTHS since I`ve touched my scroll saw!


Well I`m well on my way for the new project, and I must complete it before dec 24,07.

I`m going to my big brothers home for Christmas dinner, we don`t do gifts anymore for each other, but I wanted to thank him for hosting this and last years dinner at their home. I`ve got many ideas in my head for things that would have worked in this situation except I`m not happy with the final plans and so not ready to do them, then last night it dawned on me... and so I begin.


I wanted to say thanks and I`ve been dieing to do more of my own orriginal work, so I thought, why not make a ornament and then I thought Kitchen Witch!


So here I go, started this Saturday at noon. it`s 3 pm and I`ve got the finished pattern glued to the wood, it`s been planed 22 times, and i`ve screwed up gluing already lol... but it`s still glued to the wood, and I`ll start cutting as soon as the pattern is dry.

Been real busy, not doing anything I WANT to be doing, but thats life, this is a pic from my own back yard. Been playing with the camera now for the different lighting and white balance,. thought it looked cool.

Well damn it

As I was working on remembering what the heck I had programed into my old blog, I realized I`ve lost damn near everything I had on here for finished wood work. You see, the msn group that picked up all there toys and stomped home to play by themselves cuzz we didn`t all do exactly as they said, have erased all my pictures on a public msn site. Oh well, just gotta take some time and re-upload it all again to MY OWN site. Thats right, no more third party crap. I`m havin my own tantrum now, lol.... ME ME ME STOMP STOMP STOMP....


Well that said, I got lots of work ahead of me now.....

Upgrades

Well I got tired of being asked to upgrade my blog site to this new format so I did it tonight, it`s a little nicer than the old one, but I lost any html programing I had done on the old one, which means some things are messed up on this site now, I`ll fix em.... trust me.

New project

Ok finally a new project. Summer is over, all the great picture takin is slowed.... so new project.


This one is called Rider pride. It`s a mirror etch, with a "interactive " frame, a skyline of regina with THE FAN in wood, most likely painted wood because i`m using a thin MDF frame and backer, with a real thin mirror. No nice grains or anything so prolly paint it green, but we`ll see.

Been an interesting weekend. I should have gone home but didn`t, turns out I was smart to stay, If I hadn`t turned the heat on this weekend, who knows. And we lost our water Sunday. It` s not even that cold yet, man, what a winter are we going to have?


Turns out this weekend that my MSN picture storage was shut off. No reason for this other than more childish idiots from the group I belonged to once. I`ve started a new group for hobbies but i`m months away from going public. In the mean time and accidently, I set up another picture storage site. It`s kinda neat cuzz I can load my camera phone instantly to it anywhere in the world.


I`ll update these links (always on the right side of this page) but it seems my viewer ship is going below par....


Anyone interested in starting a online hobby site? I`m already well on the way to learning what i`m doing... for the site.

Face smashin good pictures!

Went for a bike ride with a mission in mind. Wanted some pics along the river at some spots while it was light out, then be far north as possible when sun sets.I was kidding myself that I have the same reflexes as I did as a kid. I was damn awesome on a bike b4, still good now but, well I watched as my front wheel decided to head down a steep bank and I THOUGHT my mind had said hey arms, pop the wheel up and save yourself. Well It turns out nothing was said to any body parts as my face smashed directly into the ground, except maybe "OH SHIT"


I remember climbing up a hill with my bike with some kinda realization that I may need to be around people that can operate a cell phone and call me an ambulance. Next thing I remember is I`m probably 10 miles away and it`s getting dark, 3 hours later I got home.

Now I took some interesting pictures regardless of the nights ill fate (took 135, got 10 or so good) , but what I was blown away by is that I made a video of myself right after the face plant. I don`t remember doing this, and man I look kinda in need of help lol. Think I made the video to explain what happened to me lol!.

River camera fun

What a night, thought I`d go down to the river and see if there was anything worth taking pictures of. Well damn it anyway, I shoulda taken my spare batteries and mini tripod with me. I took pictures until it was too dark and my batteries were dead.
Had a guy get pissed off with me cuzz I was takin pics in the direction he was in. I didn`t want pics of this idiot, lol. Then I was riding along the shore and found a spot to do my water attempt at (hoping its fresh water coming out of that storm pipe) when I realize how loud it`s getting there. The river is loud to begin with and I was close to the freeway but I knew it was Geese. Well I`m looking at the freeway and the sky starts to turn black, and HONK HONK HONK, they turned left at the river (must use roads and river as a map they all flew the exact path, even groups minutes behind)
I put the camera in movie mode and started filming this, it was intimidating to have that many birds fill the sky right in front of you!!!! To bad I cant figure a way to put the videos up here.

Size does matter

Been playing with camera again. Drives me nuts how many variables you must take in to get the shot you actually want to get, but some mistakes can reward you as well.

I was desperate to try out a technique with running or flowing water. has not rained here for some time, so a river does not run thru this yard. Played with pictures in my kitchen sink, believe it or not and the scary thing is, I actually got the desired effect I was going for in my sink full of dirty dishes. And that is why I`m telling you this instead of showing you it.... I should have done the dishes first... lol.

New pics on my Google space (open for anyone to see) , gonna thow some stuff on my Facebook now. I needed a secure space for some pictures I have that I don`t want the general public to see but people in my circle may want to see and have privacy protected.


I am cutting a nice piece on the scroll saw but It`s a catalog piece just killin time, not for sale. Still looking for wood and rocks people.

Flasher in my back yard

Painted my fence this weekend and that royally messed up being able to scroll anything (my hands were killing me from brushing)

Took a short digital camera course. Learned how to get some cool shots, I`d love to know what the neighbors think of me now.... sitting with my face plastered to the ground and right up at plants.

Ok and I`ll admit it, I was REALLY wondering what the hell I thought I was doing playing with a wasp hive takin pictures while being literally BUZZED every 15 seconds. Never thought taking pictures in your own backyard would make your heart race like mine was. Think I invented a new sport.
After a very short period I picked up on patterns, how often they came and went, the flight path they used EVERY time, the way they all landed exactly the same way every time. Was kinda another hobby.... no wait, really I have enough.



On a side note, I`ve been trying to kill this nest for a week now. Can`t work on my deck with them gettin all pissed. Dog has a new sport now, I have personally seen her kill 5 of em on her own. They don`t seem to taste well by the end of the whole ordeal.







. Awwwwww. Learned another trick that may make me finally go and buy photo software, need to blend 2 identical pictures that were focused at different depths... make crisp photos... anywho.

have ideas... not mediums

Ok, anyone who knows me, watch for the following that I can get for free.


Stones, or rocks, at least 2.5 to 4 inches thick (or otherwise reasonable to pick up), can`t use a 2 ton rock. Ideally 1 square foot or so diam.., and manageable thickness. Want smooth stones, nothing that crumbles when looked at, it`s gotta stand up to being worked.

I am looking for wood of all sorts. I`ll buy wood, but this is about odd stuff I`d like to get for free to try some new stuff with. I`m looking for some thick branches of trees, and some smaller logs from trunks as well. I know I don`t want to spread those Beatles so make sure that the wood is legal to move. I`d hate for Paul or anyone make a comeback because of me.


I`m not interested in damaging landscape in any way so please, I am only talking of receiving, removing or accepting what would otherwise be waste...

I am also looking for old benches that were the craze for last 5 or so years, I`m sure all that cheap crap fell apart, or your falling thru it as I speak. I`ll take that please, don`t send it to the dump, I may even buy it.

Off topic

This is off my usual topic for this blog but I gotta say something. It`s soooooo freakin hot and other things going on in my life that my brain is locked and I`m not working on any projects at the moment how ever I want to start another car portrait but I`m havin troubles gettin the picture I need to start with...


Anyway, here`s my off topic beef. I was watching a new show called "one in one hundred", ya ANOTHER reality game show, but this one is one of the best yet. They don`t drag out every part like in the other recent game shows.... This woman was on the show as a contestant, she has to answer a question correct and hope that the "mob" gets it wrong and so on.
She is so annoying that I had to mute the tv everytime they announced she got a answer right, now thats saying alot because Bob Saget is the host, and I crowned him most annoying back when he did America "funniest" videos.
So her question was, "How many six packs of beer would you have to buy to have the 99 beers on the wall like in the song." the answers she had to choose from were
a) more than 15
b) less than 15
c) exactly 15


Well She hmmmmmmsssss and haws, first thing she says is " Well I don`t drink beer" and then she says she had better get help from someone who knows something about beer. She picks two people from the mob, The first one says "I don`t drink beer, I drink wine" and she gives the wrong answer, the second one, a guy (and she choose this guy because he looked like he drank beer heavily) he gives the right answer but everyone is confused by his answer but I got how he got there, he used the MOST obvious solution.

COME ON! Who cares about it being beer, it`s grade 4 math!
ok 99 divided by six isn`t a math problem I could do in 3 seconds in my head, paper ya but... Thing is, you didn`t need to know the actual math answer, your working with 6 time 15 6x15="90)" so more than 15 cases!

and just as fast I thought 6 times 5 is an even number so C exactly 15 was automatically wrong.

I hate this part

Delivered the car tonight (ok so it was picked up) Hated to see it go....

I love and admire storms. This one was of interest because my brother used to live in this town about 11 years ago. I know he`s mad he moved lol. Just kidding.

Never want them to cause anyone any pain, but I get so excited in a storm. Been caught in 2 tornadoes so far, hoping for many more. This pic is in Elie Manitoba from summer 07.

This pic is taken on the light box, and on such an angle so that the light coming thru the cuts would not ruin the picture, however it tricks the eye into thinking I turned a Firebird into a Cutlass.

Should be final post about the damn bench.

This is while I was patterning the bench.

I drew the pattern onto the wood with pencil.
















And then I burned the pattern.

Can`t seem to enter a title for this one....


Anywho, I finished the bench today. Learned alot, would love to do this again, keeping eyes out for discarded benches. I didn`t reuse the original wood because it was sooooo weak. These things are built so cheap... anyway, I wanted to beef it up a lot. Well it`s strong, but I had a hard time with the thickness of my choice and were it had to mate with the cast iron (now i`m in serious doubt that its iron, prolly some real cheap steel made to look cast)
Then about half way thru the thing I realized I could have saved myself a tone of work if I HAD used the original wood, it would have been alot stronger because I changed the width of the bench, (shorter planks are strong than that long original span)

And somehow I changed the darkness of this text and I don`t seem to be able to stop it now LOL

And I got that paid project done. I didn`t want to post anymore because I hate to spoil it for the one thats gonna own it. This is the car cut and backlit on the light box. It still has the original pattern glued to the fron and so you cannot see anything wood.

I Like how this turned out. Will deliver early next week.
Now this thing is underlineing everything, think I`m gonna sign out...

Awesome woodgrain. If I did what I hoped, then a neat part of the grain looks like the rear tire is burning out and the hood looks like its got heat waves coming off of it. More later.

Fire Chicken part 2

So the third idea was to make it big. I said that takes time.... but ok. So I added like 3 inches to it.



Here`s the wood I selected.... this is live so I may sound like i`m babbling but as I get it i`ll update it... almost like anyone actually gives a crap.







Cut it down....











Planned it down from .69 inch to .48 inch (17.5mm to 13mm)

Sanded it for about an hour with electric random orbital sander. Squared sides then rounded edges.







So the 4th idea was a mirror idea. At first, I thought not likely, now i`ve been working it too. Car will be etched in mirror, then the wood frame will have a wood tree motif to it. Not asking for much.....


Well thats it for tonight. Start cutting the pattern this weekend. I`ll update often. Oh my house smells amazing with this wood cut in here.......... love it.

Fire Chicken

Been working on a new project. Decided to motivate myself by bloggin it.. kinda pressure myself into hurrying up.


The following is a paid job. Was asked to do a car for someone.

This is the car....













Not a good picture to work with but I took the challenge. Actually was asked to do one with people beside the car, Worked for hours and hours and then admited defete on that one, had an awesome car pattern but couldn`t get the people to look human... so went for this pic. Asked for qa better pic.... but oh well.


Then the hunt for wood. Not much available right now here. But with a little luck I think I found something I liked. Then I was asked to change the pattern yet again. I`m talking a month in, I`m asked to change 4 times what I was thinking. well.....
